The Mission of SNAP is to reduce pet overpopulation (shelter euthanasia) by preventing excess litters of dogs and cats. SNAP facilitates low-cost spay/neuters for pets coming from qualifying, low income households in Southern New Mexico.

SNAP is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization funded by individual members, businesses, grants, and client co-pays.

SNAP seeks to build its funding base through member individuals and businesses, who support their community and their love of domestic pets in wanting to see Shelter activities shift-- from the killing of excesses of dogs and cats, to the rescue and placement of unwanted and abandoned animals. Support at the government level is also necessary. The overpopulation of dogs and cats is already an established public problem requiring public funding.

Statistics show that 90% of all pets relinquished pets to shelters are from low-income households. By reserving all assistance funding for only those who qualify as low income, the pet-keepers who most contribute to shelter overpopulation are the ones being assisted. These are the pet-keepers who wouldn’t otherwise be able to prioritize the spay/neuters of their pets.
