Nothing gives me quite so much joy as when people tell me they've had their pets spayed or neutered.

Don't Let The Law Expire
Being able to afford spay and neuter is incredibly important to New Mexicans. And SNAP is excited to report that we recently received a grant from New Mexico State Spay/Neuter Grant Program. This grant is going to allow us to start a small TNR program, as well as cover the costs of spay/neuter surgeries and vaccinations for up to 150 companion cats and dogs not covered under our current contracts.
Almost 30 grants were funded and distributed in 2025, to New Mexico organization through the Affordable Spay/Neuter Law. This law was passed by the New Mexico Legislature in 2020, which established a small fee paid by pet food manufacturers for products they register to sell in New Mexico.
Unfortunately, the Affordable Spay/Neuter Law will be repealed in 2026, unless the Legislature acts to renew this legislation.
TAKE ACTION: Please urge your State Representative and State Senator to save the Affordable Spay/Neuter Law by removing the law’s repeal date during the 2026 state legislative session. A website has been set up to make it easy for you to contact your Legislators and ask for their support
