The Schumacher Grant
Helping Animals, One Paw at a Time
The issues of homelessness, crime, and drug use in Las Cruces are complex—and while there are no simple solutions for helping every person, helping their pets is something we can do.
What started as a small idea—offering free vaccinations to pets at Camp Hope—quickly grew thanks to the generosity of our clients, the Las Cruces community, and even supporters from outside the area. Within weeks, we expanded from basic vaccinations to providing full dog and cat aid bags, funding spay/neuter surgeries, and covering essential veterinary care.
Thanks to donations through The Schumacher Grant, SNAP (Spay & Neuter Action Program), and ARF (Animal Relief Fund via Doña Ana County), we've been able to make a meaningful difference. We've since extended support to clients at La Casa, La Clinica de Familia, La Pinon, and The Salvation Army and the impact in just a short time has been deeply rewarding.
Support the Grant
This program continues to grow, and we’re working to establish annual fundraising efforts to ensure its long-term sustainability. Due to your overwhelming support,
The Schumacher Grant will be moving into partnership with the
Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico to help expand our reach and goals as we continue to support both people and pets in need as well as our local law enforcement and 1st responders.
Thanks for being awesome!
